Portugal culinary food tour 2018

In 2018, our culinary tour is to Portugal, where we will be enjoying Porto, Douro, Evora & Lisbon.

Portugal has just been named the World's Leading Destination at the recent annual World Travel Awards with the country claiming six awards, including its capital Lisbon for world's leading city break destination. 
Our magical tour commences on 30th September 2018 through until 8th October 2018. There is a fabulous, optional extension to stunning Lisbon from the 8-11th October.

This luxury culinary tour includes the excitement of a 4-night stay in Sicily’s greatest city, the buzzing capital of Palermo. Tour highlights - 

First night accommodation at 5-star Hotel Infante Sagres in Porto. This beautiful hotel is a member of the 'small luxury hotels of the world. It is a very short walk to the majestic promenade Avenida dos Aliados. Drinks and a special 'opening night' dinner will be enjoyed. 

Heritage tour of Porto & Vila Nova de Gaia to Churchill's Port lodge. 

Free time in Porto before a transfer to the Casa de Cha Boa Nova for lunch. The restaurant resides in the extraordinary location on the Atlantic coast and rests on the rocks just two feet from the Sea. It has been officially designated a National Monument since 2006 and is led by Michelin starred Chef, Rui Paula. 

Accommodation is reserved for three nights at the 4-star Douro Palace Hotel Resort & Spa which sits atop a hillside on the northern side of the River Douro with stunning views over the valley.

Tour of the Douro Valley and to Quinta da Gricha which produces 250 cases of port each year. We will learn to cook wonderful dishes that pair perfectly with port wine. We will do this in the estate's kitchen and reap the rewards with a wonderful lunch together. 

Private river cruise on board a stunning wooden yacht which originally served the British Admiralty. 

Cookery lesson with Chef Helio Loureiro. Author of many cookbooks and television personality. In this class, we will master many of the tricks of Portuguese cooking. 

Tour of Coimbra - a beautiful hill town and former capital of Portugal. It is situated above the Mondego river. 

Three night stay at the 5-star Hotel M'ar de AR Aqueduoto in Evora. During these days, just some of the highlights will be a private tour of Evora. Evora is a World Heritage Site and is hailed by UNESCO as 'an open-air museum'. A tour of the hilltop town of Monsaraz. A cookery lesson with Antonio Nobre, cookbook author and Executive Chef at the restaurant Degust AR followed by lunch and then an afternoon in Arraiolos to visit one of the largest wineries in the Alentejo. We will see the cork farming and enjoy wines before enjoying a very special final tour dinner at the estate's restaurant. 

On the final day of the tour, we will leave for Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, 67 miles South of Evora. A modern winery and livestock ranch. The estate reflects a huge respect for nature and the passion of the Soares family. The estate raises Alentejana cattle and Black pig as well as a stunning 18 hectares of vineyards. A farewell tasting lunch will be enjoyed before departing for Lisbon with our guests who choose to be part of the party at Lisbon.

PRICE: $ TBC (AUD) per person twin share. Single supplements are also available.

Not included: International Air Travel, Insurance, Passport expenses

The tour price also covers all group transfers including by coach, train and personal driver once the tour commences. It includes all entry fees associated with the tour's itinerary. It includes services of bi-lingual Taste of Portugal tour host as well as services of the culinary expert, Nellie Kerrison of Relish Mama.

How to book:

We ask you to call Relish Mama on 03 9553 4846. Following your reservation by phone we can hold it for you for 7 days. We will send you a booking form. Within the 7 days, we ask that you complete and return the booking form to Relish Mama together with your deposit payment of $2000 per person.  Please note that telephone reservations can only be held for 7 days. Deposits can also be made securely here.

What will the weather be like?

The weather is likely to be quite perfect still in October – the average maximum temperature for Portugal in October is 23°C but often a little warmer .

What travel documents do I need?

Your flight tickets, passport, a copy of your travel insurance policy making a note of the number for medical emergency overseas.

What about meals?

Most meals are included from dinner on 30th September through to breakfast on 8th October, with the exception of a few meals - listed on the itinerary which are independent and a lovely opportunity for you to explore.
